Psalm 12.1-6, Genesis 3.1-24, Mark 2.1-17 - Lectionary for 3/12/11

Today's readings are Psalm 12.1-6, Genesis 3.1-24, and Mark 2.1-17.

As we continue in this penitential season we read a Psalm which questions where all the faithful people are. In Genesis we read of the fall into sin and God's curse upon the entire world. People are separated from God and do not have the hope which they formerly counted on. This stark picture is shown even more clearly as we read the Gospel and see the way Jesus has come to heal and to gather people together in him. Both Law and Gospel are accentuated so we can see the sinfulness of sin and the great mercy of God.

In Adam all have sinned. Jesus calls sinners to himself. Thanks be to God.
