Psalm 2, Genesis 6.1-7.5, Mark 3.1-19 - Lectionary for 3/14/11

Today's readings are Psalm 2, Genesis 6.1-7.5, and Mark 3.1-19.

Our world seems to be in a frenzy. Right now we are seeing a mounting death toll from a natural disaster in Japan. We are also seeing revolutionary activity in many North African countries, We see large-scale persecution of Christians and wars between sects of different religions. It's a wild world.

In the Scripture passages for today we also see the world's frenzy and fury. Yet the Gospel lesson interrupts all this with a message of peace. On the Sabbath day, Jesus, Lord of the Sabbath, brings healing and rest. We are told also that he is the Lord who will bring ultimate rest to our struggles. Let us look to the Lord of the Sabbath and enter into his rest today.
